Andhra Lobby : Modern Day Asaf Jahis and The Issue of Celebrating Hyderabad Liberation Day
This 17th September marks the 63rd anniversary of Hyderabad Liberation Day. It was on this day, Nizam Osman Ali Khan, Asif Jah VII officially accedded the princely state of Hyderabad to the Union of India, relieving the people of Telangana from the clutches of his tyranny. It spelt a new beginning for socio-political and economic revival of the region.
62 years down the line, where does Telangana stand today? How successful have we been in the realms of economic development, political liberty and preservation of cultural heritage? How far did we traverse in realizing the dreams of our grandfathers?Sadly, Telangana today appears unchanged from the state 62 years ago. It must be noted that there has been considerable progress post 1948, but when viewed from a larger perspective, comparing the development levels in Telangana with those of surrounding regions, Telangana appears untouched by development and progress. While Telangana prior to 1948 was an orphan, Telangana of 2010 is no more than a neglected child.
Regardless of the discrimination Telangana had to face from the successive governments, September 17th always has been a day to cherish and celebrate for Telanganites. After all, it was this day when they became the proud citizens of world’s largest democracy.

| Erstwhile Hyderabad State |
While Hyderabad Liberation Day is celebrated officially in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka(a few Kannada and Marathi speaking districts of erstwhile Hyderabad state were merged with current day Maharashtra and Karnataka during Reorganization of states,1956) the government of Andhra Pradesh intentionally turns a Nelson’s eye to the event, downplaying its historic importance. The nonchalant attitude of the Andhra inclined Govt to the thousands of appeals made during the past five decades to declare the day an official honour, reveals the step-motherly treatment towards Telangana by the Govt, which is predominantly constituted of Andhra elected representatives.
And on this note, it makes me question how distinct are today’s Andhra biased rulers from Asaf Jahi kings (famously known as Nizams)? Surprisingly, we can hardly see a contrast between both the suppressors. Moreover, present day Telangana protests find themselves on the same track with the Telangana People’s Struggle against feudal lords between 1946 to1951.
Asaf Jahi Kings built Hyderabad with the funds amassed by exploiting Telangana peasants .Current day Andhra biased rulers are minting money grabbing lands from the locals in the surrounding regions of Hyderabad in the name of SEZs and Outer Ring Road.
Asaf Jahi kings deprived Telanganites of public offices by instituting Urdu as the official language and following the same route, Andhra biased Govt Representatives deemed the dialect of Telanganites incongruous for official correspondences. This is a shameless violation Gentlemen’s Agreement of 1956 and G.O.610 of 1985.
Following the legacy of suppression of the Asaf Jahi kings, who had created a political wing, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (present day MIM) in the wake of Telangana People’s Struggle against feudal lords, the current day Andhra lobby created Samaikyandhra JAC as a counter to Telangana JAC.
Current day Andhra lobby have developed a powerful anti-Telangana media ring to ensure that only selective news will reach to public. The banning of Raj TV during Nizamabad bye-elections was a glaring testimony to the censorship of the Andhra Lobby. One is compelled to draw parallels to the strict censorship policy of the Asaf Jahi Nawabs to suppress the news of peasant revolution and smother the freedom of expression
Asaf Jahi Kings deployed Razakar forces under the leadership of Qasim Rizvi to torment and massacre revolutionaries. Their Andhra protégés reciprocated the same by engulfing the Osmania University Campus with thousands of police personnel, torturing students both physically and psychologically and registering false cases on them.
And the list of similarities between Asaf Jahi Monarchs and Andhra prone rulers never ceases to end.
Above all, the government’s outright denial to commemorate and celebrate the occasion of Telanganites’ inclusion into Indian Union is a blasphemy against democracy. It vehemently contradicts the spirit of independence.
The acutely reasonable argument Combined Andhra supporters table against the celebration of Hyderabad Liberation day is the claim that thousands of innocent Muslims were massacred post Operation Polo and that Telanganites’ should indeed mourn for their deaths on this day. But this argument dissipates as around a Million innocent lives were lost because of Partition of India. Should Indians also stop celebrating Independence Day? Should India, on every 15th of August, weep and mourn and not rejoice its emancipation? Telanganites wish to celebrate their Indian identity on the Sep 17th, while equally mourning the death of our brothers.
The governments’ Asaf Jahisque strategies towards the rightful demands of Telanganites and its contemptuous attitude towards September 17th will only further consolidate the desire of a separate Telangana state among masses and if necessary, undertake another movement for Independence akin to the anti-Razakar movement of 1947-48.
Vive le Telangana libre!
Jai Telangana, Kabbadar Andhra!!!!
Dear Andhra bro’s, most of u ppl oppose the agitation coz u don wanna loose Hyderabad, instead u ppl cover sayin some stupid reasons lyk fight with leaders n make their ass burn and make thethings work. I can say an example I have araised, hope this will make a sense, There is a Mandal called Kaddam in Adilabad district, under this mandal there are 56 villages, but the worst thing is that it still doesn’t have an intermediate college in the mandal, as u know most of the ppl in villages study part time and look after their farms and cattle to live the lyf, it is not possible for them to travel 30-40km daily to study or to stay there as they need money to live n need to luk after their farms. In this way most of them r givin up till the schooling, which results in lack of education, its just the basic need..there r very few of these things in Andhra too but I bet its not this worse….Food, water n education atleast ppl shd have minimum of these things to survive… if there is one problem we can make the leaders to piss them n fulfill our needs, but there r many problems like this which r not even focused till now. Even if they r gud leaders the funds r given by the CM candidates who r mostly frm SA. Recently the govt issued the funds for road construction in tht Telangana got 15% n SA 85%. Does this make any sense, we have been cheated all these yrs in this way without our attention, now the time has begun to raise our voice, we don want some one comin frm other places n rule us. The funny thing is tht U ppl say tht Hydereabad is developed by U. But the fact is tht it has been already developed thts y they made Hyd as capital and u did nothing except benefitin for urself n makin us jobless. U ppl hate KCR n praise Potti sreeramulu, wats the difference between them both have the same goal to achieve separate state, but u take it in ur way. Its like “meeru chesthe samsaram vere vaalu chesthe vyabhicharam”suits u better. Grow up guys n stop opposing the agitation, its already out of clutches, its better we divide happily lyk frnds otherwise it will get worse if we get into action. In the words I have written I used “U ppl” the stage has already gone sayin “We” n in the future don make us to replace tht wit n abusive word.Hatsoff to all the great Telanganites who sacrificed their lives for “Telangana”. Please brothers don’t do any suspicious things lyk commiting suicides, we see our own state tht day is not too far.
Jai Telangana…… Jai Jai Telangana

Stop Answering WHY TELANGANA? Start asking WHY NOT TELANGANA
Yes, The time has come that we fought for our rights not just our Land.
Friends, Almost everybody knows the every answer to "Why Telangana?". If somebody asks this same question give them a Chloromint style Tamacha and say "Dubara Mat Poochna...!"
Just ask them "Why not?"
If ppl say we should not break our country into pieces, ask them to fight against all states which are already existing. Let the whole country be only one state.... Is that possible?
If ppl say we telugus are all one, same culture, same language etc., ask them "So what?" There are many Hindi speaking states today. Entire India is ONE... Entire India has same culture....
Today some of the ignorant Andhrites who call themselves as INTELLECTUALS say they have developed Hyderabad. Ask them how many airports were there in INDIA at the time of independance. Transport Council of INDIA in its webitehttp://www.tcil.com/ca.asp says there was a not just airport in Hyderabad, but also the Nizam ran a full length airlines called Deccan Airways which was the second largest in the country. thats just one example
Today there are ppl from all parts of the country happily coexisting in hyderabad. In fact Dr B R Ambedkar wanted the govt to Develop Hyderabad as a alternate capital of India because of its Startegic location (far and safe from borders)http://presidentofindia.nic.in/retreats.html
None of the lakhs of Marathis, Gujarathis, Punjabis, Tamils, Malayalis etc have any problem of formation of Telangana. Thats because they traeat this land which has given them life as their mother. On the other hand the people who oppose Telangana (some Andhrites) do that because they fear that they will be reduced to second class citizens here after formation of Telangana.
They have such fear because they think we too are like them. They think we will also go in their path and treat them as how they've treated us telanganites.
Its a fact that today, we telanganites are reduced to Second class or even third class citizens here on our own land. The fact that all news (thru cable tv) are being banned or disconnected when ever there is any serious activity (KCR Deeksha, Elections etc). Is this fair? Are we not the citizens of India? Dont we have right to informatiom?
Who says we are in a FREE INDIA?

LAWYER'S BOYCOTT COURT

The condition of three advocates -- Jyothi Kiran, Satyam Reddy and Vijay Kumar Goud -- who sat on an indefinite fast yesterday, is said to be serious.
The pro-Telangana advocates were demanding 42 percent share in the posts of additional government pleaders, government pleaders, public prosecutors and assistant public prosecutors in the courts. "We also demand that the post of Advocate General be given to a person from Telangana. No person from Telangana had been given the post in the past five decades," TAJAC co-convenor T Sriranga Rao told Express.
The TAJAC alleged that advocate general D V Sitarama Murthy had failed to solve their demands.
"We have submitted a representation to the advocate general nearly 20 days back and he assured us of looking into the issue. As there has been no response from him, we are forced to take up the protest," TAJAC joint convenor Ravula Venkat Reddy said.
Advocates in various courts in Hyderabad and Secunderabad boycotted work and staged protests. In the High Court, hundreds of advocates stalled the work in the court and staged a protest at the entrance. They also squatted on the main road in front of the High Court blocking traffic for sometime.
Mild tension prevailed when some advocates barged into the 32nd court in which Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy was conducting the proceedings. "All the other courts stopped functioning but Nagarjuna Reddy was conducting the proceedings. After our request, even that court also stopped working," Venkat Reddy said.
Reacting to the reports that the protesting advocates had ransacked the furniture in the court room, Venkat Reddy denied the same and said it was a creation of non-Telangana advocates to malign their image.
TAJAC co-convenor M S Tirumal Rao said they would not stop their fight till their demands were met.
At the Criminal Courts Complex at Nampally, pro-Telangana advocates boycotted courts and did not allow any work till afternoon. They squatted in the corridor and raised pro-Telangana slogans. They even obstructed some advocates who tried to attend the courts.
Advocates from the courts in Secunderabad, Saroornagar, Rajendranagar and City Civil Court at Purani Haveli took out processions to the High Court and joined the protest. Advocates from Warangal and Nizamabad also joined the protest.
